Water is essential to our existence, it allows us to produce food,
manufacture goods and sustain our health. In fact, our bodies contain 60%
water. We are committed to ensuring our clients have access to information
and advice regarding water saving. The company has a very strict policy
whereby employees who come across situations where water can be
conserved are to report their findings to the management who in turn will
gladly present the client with solutions to consider.
Solutions for Energy - Efficient Washrooms
Some products and solutions are readily available in today’s market that will
make a difference to the amount of water you consume whether it is a
commercial or domestic situation.
Toilet cisterns
Older style cisterns can use up to 11 litres of water per flush and have only a
single flush option. By replacing these cisterns with new dual flush cistern
that have a 6-litre full flush and 3-litre half flush, water consumption can be
radically reduced to as little as half of the current usage. These new cisterns
are available as a porcelain exposed cistern as well and a plastic concealed
cistern.
Tap ware
Existing tap ware you might find in your home or office bathroom would more
than likely use over 15 litre of water per minute. If your renovating or
upgrading your tap ware, make sure your consider tap ware which have water
restrictors fitted, many tap ware companies have new modern looking tap
ware whether it be for the home or office which only delivers 6 litres of water
per minute.
Showerheads
Existing shower heads can deliver up to 30 litres a minute of water. These
shower heads can be replaced with a water saver shower head, which will
only use 8 litres per minute of water.
Automatic flush valve for urinals
Most urinals which have a cistern fitted, either have pull chain or work on a fill
and flush system which flushes water 24 hours a day every time the cistern
fills. There are new fantastic devices available on today’s market which have
proven in most cases to save more than 50% of water supply used for this
purpose. It involves the installation of a solenoid valve and sensor. Once
installed the urinal will only flush once every time it is used. If the urinal is
not used within a 24 hour period it can be programmed to flush only once in
this period to prevent unpleasant odours.
Mr Water Plumbing P/L carries out free onsite inspections and would gladly
be of assistance in helping you play your part in water conservation. Below
are an example of works we have just completed and a graph showing how
much water has been saved.
Example
We were asked to complete an audit of a commercial building in the CBD as
their bathroom amenities were due to be upgraded. The building had 17
levels of bathrooms consisting of 187 toilet cubicles, 153 basins and 51
urinals.
- Toilet cubicles were flushing 9 litres every time used. We replaced
these with a 6/4 concealed cistern along with a 6 litre pan. All
cubicles were upgraded.
- Existing tap ware was delivering 15 litres of water per minute. We
replaced these with new modern tap ware which only delivers 6 litres
of water per minute. 70 basin sets were replaced.
- Urinals had cisterns attached to them flushing between 10 to 15 litres
of water per flush. We replaced these with automatic flushing sensors
which only used 3 litres of water per flush.
A reading of the buildings water usage taken throughout 2003 indicated very high water consumption.
The works were carried out over weekends in 2004 as to accommodate
building budgets and provide minimal disruptions to office staff. All works
were completed by December 2004 and readings throughout 2005 have
indicated a radical reduction in water consumption. The building owners have
been extremely pleased with the outcome and the fact that they have
contributed in the preservation of our water.
